Mun Name: Az

Contact Info: AIM: nyctotheory
Other Characters: Yakko Warner, Elias, Heatwave. (also The Artist NPC)

Name: Ratchet
From: The ever so sparsely represented Transformers franchise. Specifically, TF Prime

Appearance:
Well, he's orange. And white. And screw it here's a picture.

He looks like this. Except for the times when he looks like an EMS vehicle.

Age: Definitely older than the entire homo genus. Not as old as the Earth and its moon. Somewhere between that 4.6 billion year timeframe. In other worse, old enough to yell at kids to get the slag off his lawn.

Gender: Male.

Personality: Ratchet is an embittered old soul, who's seen it all and has lost much faith along the way. He's slow to warm up and quick to judge, and is deepset in his ways and beliefs. It takes much to get through to him, and though he is as stubborn as he is opinionated, he can be convinced over time if it's clear he's in the wrong. It just isn't easy to do so.

Good is not nice. He is a definite good person, though he has a lot of residual anger that's accumulated over Primus knows how long. Lots of things he couldn't fix, lots of war atrocities - generally speaking seeing the collapse of your entire world will do things to a 'bot.

It's not a stretch to say he remembers every single person he failed to help, or every moment everything he could do wasn't good enough. His memory's long and while he's ancient he is far from senile. He hasn't been able to save as many as he would have liked to (such as everyone dead) and he hasn't been able to prevent half the lasting damage he wishes he could have prevented (such as Bumblebee). A lot of his failures rack up in his mind somewhere, and fuel his hatred for the enemy as well as his own bitterness. The five words he hates most in this world and any other go along the lines of 'there's nothing I can do'. Helplessness at a situation is as close to a trigger as it gets with him.

Ratchet's intelligent and dedicated to what he sets his mind to. He's specifically interested in technology (what he deems technology, anyway) and a respectable scientist in his own right. He sticks to his profession more or less, and while he is capable and perfectly willing to fight if necessary, tends to stay at the base as a support unit.

While he is a medic, and a skilled one at that, he primarily knows Cybertronian physiology, and has not yet learned much by way of xenobiology -- yet. He got lucky once, when Raf was poisoned, and is determined not let that oversight recur. It's his job to repair and to rescue, and he refuses to fail those that depend on him to do it. Including the humans that hang around the base, despite his reservations about their inclusion, especially initially. (Over time, he's come to see the little human friends as valuable allies, though he'd prefer not to have to admit it. It's a grudging respect, though over time he's started to grow, oh horror of horrors, even somewhat fond of them.)

He doesn't have much by way of genuine friends, Optimus being the oldest and likely closest of them. With his ever charming personality it's no wonder why.

Backstory: Ratchet's been on the Autobot team more or less before that term existed. He knew Optimus before he was a Prime, back when he was known as Orion Pax, and watched the entire thing unravel firsthand. Just as Soundwave was always at Megatron's side, it's safe to say that Ratchet filled a similar position, even if their purposes and jobs were entirely different.

He was there for the fall of Cybertron, then again by then the entire team currently assembled was. (While it may be a long backstory we haven't seen much OF it yet, and the rest is in the show as it goes along:

He's one of five surviving Autobots stranded on the planet Earth locked in a battle to protect this planet from falling as well to Decepticons, Unicron or other. Things happen-Cliffjumper is scrapped, they end up stuck with humans the 'cons'll identify as affiliated with them due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. As it progresses he continues to struggle with alien technology, yell at Bulkhead for ruining equipment that isn't easily replaced, pulls the odd mad scientist gamble, commandeers children's science projects, grows to start viewing the humans as allies after the scraplet incident -- something that has slowly progressed as time goes on. He learns the hard way about synthetic energon (translating out to steroids basically) and rashly testing it on himself without refining the formula when he grows frustrated about not being able to do more to help. He curses himself for not learning human physiology when Raf gets injured and he has no idea what to do or what the right tools to use even would look like. And so on.

But it's all summed up better somewhere else, and it IS a long story either way.)

Moral Standing: Good, Autobot. Also medic.

Dreams: Dashed to piece-- I mean. To finally be through with this war, and lose no one else along the way.

Fears: Watching as one by one his allies fall. You know. Like has been happening.

Extra:

Character Location: Autobot Base (Missile Silo).
Initially buried inside of a cliff outside Jasper, Nevada, this is technically part of a mountain that's hollowed out and turned into a high-tech hideaway. It's been outfitted over time to accomodate the Autobot's various requirements, including a groundbridge. As far as I've seen thus far it's a lot of hallways, probably a few rooms and a main area with multiple levels/sickbay over in the corner of it. (Here's hoping the energon stockpile, power generator, and armory aren't ACTUALLY all in the same area as Miko was implying)
There's also a human sized elevator going to the surface, as well as a place to drive around/opening false wall in the cliff face.

RP Sample:
It was quiet in the base. For once. Nice and peaceful, just the way Ratchet tended to like it. No Miko to cause damage to his audio receptors by existing, no Bulkhead to destroy what little equipment was still functioning, no --

A brief blip on the monitor caught his attention. Nothing more than an update on the team's relative positions, but Ratchet was nothing if not vigilant to any change. Just in case.

Nice and quiet in here. Who knew WHAT the others were getting themselves into, and without any contact from them, or reason to contact them yet, the 'bot was hardly in any position to comment on it. The only thing he was in any position to do was to idle here back at base, perfectly safe, and watch screens.

Someone had to do it. He was the logical choice. Knowing its necessity didn't make doing it any easier. Sure, there shouldn't be any issue. But since when did anything go the way it should lately?

It was almost unfortunate that everything was working just fine on Ratchet's end. It didn't give him anything else to do. Well.. he supposed he could find something. It may just be diagnostic busywork, but anything extra to do in the meantime was appreciated. Might even come in handy.

The longer he'd known the fleshies, the more he'd grown used to them. Accustomed, at best. Attached was pushing it. Still... it never used to be quite this silent, before they conspicuously weren't here, did it? Maybe having one of them around wouldn't be that terrible - one less thing to worry about.

Actually, it could be terrible. He could be stuck here with just Miko. There were few things that suddenly made radio silence almost enjoyable.

Might as well treasure it while it lasts, because it won't. Speaking of...

He clicked the frequency back on. "Optimus? What's your status?"
